1 Purpose & Service Overview

Contamination in a data centre is rarely visible to the naked eye until it has already caused damage — a corroded connector, a failed board, an unexplained outage. Airborne particulate, settled dust and zinc whisker growth all accumulate silently, and by the time symptoms appear, the underlying cause is often difficult to trace back with confidence.

This service specification sets out DCS Australia’s Particulate & Air Quality Testing program — independent, quantitative testing that verifies white space and sub-floor air quality against recognised cleanliness thresholds, giving you trend data and evidence rather than assumptions.

2 Scope of Services

2.1 Airborne Particulate Counting

Laser particle counter sampling at defined points across white space, sub-floor and CRAC/CRAH intakes, benchmarked against ISO 14644-1 cleanroom classification for IT environments.

2.2 Surface Contamination (Dust Deposition) Testing

Witness plate or swab sampling at raised-floor, cabinet and equipment intake locations to quantify settled particulate load — capturing contamination that airborne counts alone can miss.

2.3 Zinc Whisker Sampling

Adhesive lift sampling of galvanised surfaces — raised-floor tiles, cable trays and support structures — with laboratory analysis to detect zinc whisker growth, a leading cause of unexplained equipment failure that most cleaning providers don’t test for.

2.4 Gaseous Contamination Screening

Corrosion classification coupons assess sulphur- and chlorine-bearing compounds in the air, identifying corrosive risk to electronics per ASHRAE TC 9.9 guidance.

2.5 Detailed Test Reporting

Every engagement produces a NATA-style test report with quantitative results, trend comparison against previous cycles, and clear flagging of any readings approaching or exceeding threshold.
